01/03 Tuesday

1 ½ to 2 inches of new snow overnite.  Not near the amount forecast or hoped for but, grateful we at least got this much.  All ski trails smoothed out.  Coverage is good to very good with a packed powder base.

Good skiing, Randy

  1. Hi Randy - when you say all trails smoothed out, does that mean the trails are groomed or not groomed? Planning to skate and just want to make sure we're good to go before driving 2 hours north. Thank you!

  2. This is Randy. Without getting too wordy... Smoothed out means we used equipment to affect the top of the surface, and it will be relatively smooth. This is usually the case in either new snow or very thin base. "Groomed" is when we use the actual groomers with "teeth" and we affect the top inch to several inches of base. Given time, the snow in the groomed areas will "transform". This means the snow will firm up in and better stay in place.
