The sunshine and warm temps have caused a lot of melting. I went up this morning and observed a few ski trails. The base is thinning or gone in most areas. We will not attempt any further grooming until conditions change.

ReplyDeleteCalling off further grooming while the base is thinning makes a lot of sense, since running a machine over a bare or patchy trail can do more harm than good. Warm sunshine and melting change things fast, so checking the trails in person before committing to a pass is the right call. It is also a reminder that grooming is not just about smoothing snow, it is about knowing when to leave a thin base alone until conditions improve. Thanks to Randy and the volunteers for making that judgment call and for keeping skiers informed rather than grooming for the sake of it.
